Dams & Waterworks
Dams
Over the years, Loh
& Loh had constructed more than 10 major dams in
Malaysia. The Durian Tunggal Dam in Malacca was the maiden
water
supply project undertaken and successfully completed
in 1974. The company is also involved in the construction
of the Main Dam in Putrajaya. The dam is built in accordance
with an alternative design proposed by Loh & Loh
which is not only more economical but promotes aesthetics
as well.
The company is the first local company to be involved
in the first RCC (Roller Compacted Concrete) dam to be
constructed in Malaysia. The construction of dams requires
a high degree of safety requirements,
complex
planning,
phasing,
execution,
control
and experience. Extensive and in-depth knowledge of tunnelling,
quarry operation, pressure grouting and geo-technical
instrumentation works is highly essential.
Intake
and Treatment Plants
Water Purification Works
Among the major treatment plant projects
completed by the company are the Stage 1 and Stage 2
projects of the Sungai Selangor Water Supply Scheme
which has a
total capacity of 800 M.L.D. This is currently the biggest
water treatment plant in South East Asia.
Reservoirs
and Pipelines
Water Distribution Works
Loh & Loh is responsible for laying many major distribution
pipelines including the 70km pipelines of various sizes
for two packages of the Malaysian Rural Water Supply
Scheme, and a 30km of 2,050mm-diameter steel pipeline
across rough and undulating terrain and urban areas for
Packages C,D, and E of the Sungai Selangor Water Supply
Schemes. Through the years, the company has also constructed
more than 30 services reservoirs of various sizes, the
largest having a capacity of 90 million litres.
Drainage
With increasing pressures on the
environment due to development, urbanization and industrialization,
there is a growing need for effective flood mitigation
measures to ensure safe and productive land usage.
The need to upgrade existing drainage and irrigation
systems has been evident over many years. Loh & Loh’s
civil engineering expertise as well as its fleet of
land-based equipment have been put into good use in
notable drainage projects. The company is involved
in providing highly innovative logistics support and
solutions to a wide range of drainage projects.
Sewerage
Loh & Loh has
extensive practical and managerial experience in sewerage
works. The expertise involves
the design and construction of not only the sewering
of properties but also pumping stations and pumping
mains for an effective sewerage system.
Earthworks
Through decades of continuous
growth, Loh & Loh has built up one of the biggest
and most modern fleet of earth-moving and quarry equipment
in the country. The fleet is capable of transforming
any landscape at tremendous speed. The earth-filled
dam projects completed by Loh & Loh involved the
movement of vast volumes of earth and other materials.
Its strength and expertise with earthwork was demonstrated
by its successful and timely completion of the EW100
and EW200 Bulk Earthwork Projects for the development
of Putrajaya Core Island. This important project involved
moving and relocating 17 million cubic metres of earth
and 1 million cubic metres of rocks in just 20 months
under stringent environmental and logistical constraints.
Buildings
Loh & Loh has
also established a good reputation in the Building
Construction sector. The company completed the construction
of two 30-storey condominium blocks at the Games Village
in Bukit Jalil in the Klang Valley and the Yayasan
Saad Matriculation College at Lembah Beringin in Selangor.
Both were fast-track projects. The entire campus of
the Yayasan Saad Matriculation College including staff
and students quarters and the sports complex, was completed
in seven months from earthwork formation to full completion
of all facilities.
Roads and Bridges
Loh & Loh prides itself on
its involvement in the construction of the first dual
carriage vehicular bridge on Penang Island. Other highway
projects include the participation in the Penang Island
Traffic Dispersal Scheme, the extension of Jalan Duta
road in Kuala Lumpur and the construction of Linggui
Dam access in Johor.
Another project undertaken by the company is the Kuala
Kangsar Railway Bridge over Sungai Perak. The scope
of works in the contract involved the design and construction
of a 250-metre long pre-stressed concrete
bridge and the refurbishment of the century old Victorian
Bridge.
Dredging & Reclamation
Works
In the early 1980s,
Loh & Loh undertook reclamation work for Phases
I & II of the Penang Bridge Project which involved
both the Penang Island and Prai Interchanges. One hundred
hectares of reclaimed land on the island were rehabilitated
using 2.5 million cu. metres of hydraulic filled materials
dredged from the sea.
With rapid development and increasing land pressure,
the coastal areas increasingly have to be rehabilitated
to meet existing as well as new requirement or needs.
The completion of several marine, coastal and off-shore
projects have given Loh & Loh considerable experience
and expertise in dredging and reclamation works.
Landscaping and
Golf Courses
Loh & Loh’s role in
the construction of golf courses and landscaping include
earthworks, shaping, drainage, irrigation, turfing,
beautification, landscaping and the construction of
ponds and infrastructure. Its involvement in these
activities is a reflection of the company’s expansion
in its scope of civil engineering expertise and also
as a response to market needs.
